GOOD CLOTH + BEAUTYCOUNTER LAUNCH: For over a year, Good Cloth has searched for the right skincare and beauty brand to include. We’ve tried numerous sustainable personal care brands that come up short. Either we didn’t like the products, or they didn’t give sufficient transparency. That all changed when we attended the annual B Corp Champions Retreat, held this year in New Orleans. Over 500 mission-driven leaders, including our founder, Stephanie Hepburn, traveled from around the world to engage in relationship building, collaborations and best practices for using business as a force for good. It was there that we met another Certified B Corp, Beautycounter.
Beautycounter has a five-step ingredient selection process to ensure product safety that includes responsibly sourcing raw materials, rigorously screening them for safety, and not including 1,500+ harmful and questionable ingredients the company compiled for their The Never List™. On the list are chemicals banned or restricted in personal care by the European Union. They also take the safety of the environment and animals very seriously: Beautycounter does not test on animals at ANY STAGE in the development of their products.
What’s more, the woman-founded and -run company advocates for policy change that increases safety and transparency in personal care products. As Gregg Renfrew, Beautycounter founder and CEO, says “ingredient disclosure empowers consumers to choose safer alternatives.” (Scroll down to learn more about why it matters, our favorite products, and how to join our team.)
We couldn’t agree more. That’s why Good Cloth has partnered with Beautycounter.
This cult favorite is an overnight resurfacing peel that doesn’t have the icky stuff commonly found in peels like synthetic fragrance, PEGs (polyethylene glycols), and formaldehyde-based preservatives. Instead, it’s packed with 15 botanically-derived acids that minimize the appearance of fine lines, dark spots, pores, and overall improves skin texture. You’ll slough off the old and bring in the new skin cells with this one.
We love this cream because it’s super-hydrating AND includes jambu extract, which targets the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while firming and nourishing skin. In an independent single-blind clinical study and consumer perception study, the cream increased skin hydration and elasticity after eight hours. 100% of women showed a significant increase in skin hydration while 81% had a significant improvement in skin elasticity.
This sheer lipstick is versatile and gives just the right amount of color. (Seen here in Twig.) It’s silky-smooth and features moisturizing ingredients such as jojoba esters and carnauba wax. What it doesn’t have is gross stuff like synthetic fragrance; instead, the lipstick has a splash of natural vanilla.

More on Why it Matters!
Yes, Beautycounter creates good-for-you skincare, makeup, and personal care, but they are also pushing for change on a legislative level. Most people don’t know what they put on their skin every day. This video explains why strict safety guidelines and reducing chemical exposure matters. Be sure to check all your personal care products on EWG’s Skin Deep Skincare Cosmetics Database to see how they rate for product safety.
